Anne Womack Christian Newman’s Obituary

On Wednesday, September 1, 2021, Anne Womack Christian Newman, loving mother of four children passed away at the age of eighty-two.

Anne was born on June 16, 1939, in Farmville, Virginia, to Roy Marshall Womack and Mamie Davis Womack (both deceased). She was married to John E. Christian (deceased) and they raised their four children, two sons, Robert Christian (Judy), Charles Christian, and two daughters, Pamela Hartley (Calvin), Cathy Steward. In 2010, Anne married Dave Newman and they lived in Meherrin, Virginia.

Anne is survived by one brother, Marshall Womack (Martha), of Farmville, Virginia. Two sisters, Mary Nay (Cecil) of Ruckersville, Virginia and Judy Vogt (Bob) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Anne has six grandchildren; Daniel, Calvin, Caitlin, Jarid, Ryan and Aunna. Anne has two great grandchildren; Maddy and Troy. Her Step children are: PJ Newman and Tammy William Hodges. Her step grandchildren are; Emily, Stephen, Autumn, Olivia and Austin. Her step great grandchildren are; Brayden, Mason and Carter.

Anne had a passion for gardening; both vegetables and flowers. She also loved to bird watch, and she enjoyed the variety of birds found in the country side. She was known for her loving nature to her family and her compassionate spirit. Anne spent most of her professional life working in education for Buckingham public schools. Her fellow co-workers always described her as a true professional and dedicated worker. Anne attended Longwood College.

A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Meherrin, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the American Cancer Society.
