Donald A. Gruentzel, Sr., 81, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 in Goochland. He was the husband of the late Marilyn Ann Lovell Gruentzel.
Born in Wisconsin, Nov. 24, 1927, Mr. Gruentzel was the son of the late Lester M. and Winston Sally Gruentzel. He was a US Army veteran, a graduate of Creighton University School of Law and retired following a distinguished career as an FBI Agent.
He is survived three sons: Donald A. Gruentzel, Jr. and wife, Vivian of Cartersville, Philip J. Gruentzel and wife Susan of Westminster, Md. and Thomas M. Gruentzel and wife, Nancy of Mount Airy, Md., one daughter Kristina Gruentzel Bennett of Cumberland, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by his brother-in-law, Gerard Lovell of Nashville, TN and three sisters-in-law; Maryellen Lovell of Nashville, TN, Barbara Lovell of Morris, Ill and Lura Lovell of Tucson, AZ.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 at St. Theresa Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 until 9:00 pm Friday with a wake service beginning at 8:00 pm.
The family will also receive friends at Robert A. Pumphrey Funeral Home in Rockville MD on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, from 3:00 until 5:00 pm.
A committal service and entombment will take place at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, Silver Springs, Md. at 10:00 am, Monday, Oct. 5, 2009
