Donald Jennings Strock of Farmville passed away Friday, January 21, 2011 at his home.
He was born in New Jersey, September 15, 1924 to the late Wilmer and Bertha Jennings Strock. He was an honorable Marine serving his country during World War II in the Soloman Islands, was a member of the American Legion, Farmville and was currently serving as Commander of VFW Post # 7059, Farmville. He was also a member of Heritage Baptist Church, Farmville.
Mr. Strock enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and writing Letters to the Editor of local newspapers.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty J. Strock, two daughters, Barbara Gray and son-in-law Charles Gray of Dublin, PA and Rebecca Jackson and son-in-law, John F. Jackson of Cartersville, VA, one sister, Gladys Smith of Salorsburg, PA, six grandchildren: Crystal Hamilton, Sarah Handy, Daniel Hunley, Amber Jackson, Randy Jackson and David Jackson, three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews , cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 25, 2011 in the chapel at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia. The family will receive friends at VFW Post # 7059, Farmville immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to VFW Post # 7059, Farmville, VA.
