Elner Slayton

Mrs. Elner Virginia McFadden Slayton, 84 beloved mother, grandmother, wife and sister passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 in Farmville.  She was born January 7, 1930 in Buckingham Co. to the late Harry Thomas and Berta Virginia Bryant McFaden.  She was the widow of Russell Overby Slayton.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Slayton Goodson (Billy) of Norfolk, VA and her son, Johnny Ray Slayton (companion, Sherry Collins) of Farmville; two grandchildren, Jamie Russell Slayton of Drakes Branch and Christopher William Slayton of Farmville; two great grandchildren, Melody Slayton of Chesterfield, VA and Noah Sprouse of Colonial Heights, VA; two brothers, James William McFadden of Ohio and John Adams McFadden of South Carolina.  She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lawrence McFadden, Dorothy McFadden Liptrap, Andrew Thomas McFadden and Shirley Arlene McFadden Pannell.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 3:00pm at the chapel of Shorter Funeral Home with interment to follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens.  Family will receive friends on Friday, April 25, 2014 6:00-8:00pm at the Shorter Funeral Home.  Memorial  contributions may be made to Douglas Presbyterian Church, 976 Douglas Church Rd, Farmville, VA 23901, American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Ct, Glen Allen, VA 23060, or the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington DC 20090.
