Hugh French

Hugh Augustus French of the Sunnyside community in Cumberland known as Pop to many, as FarmBoy to many others and simply as Mr Hugh to many more, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at the age of 72. Born September 13, 1948, Hugh is survived by Anita, his wife of nearly 54 years, his sons H.A. (Sandra), Rob (Tina), Jason (Emily), Neal, his grandchildren Chase, John, Luke (Megan), Therie (Cody), Thomas, Sarah-Jane, Billy, Cheyenne and Sierra, his great granddaughter Jordyn, his sister Becky Lou (H. C. Rowan), many nieces and nephews and countless extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents Billy and Rebecca and grandchildren Mary-Todd and Michael.

Pop, like all of us, was not perfect, but he was the perfect man for the job that the Lord put him on this Earth to complete. Faith, family, farming and hunting: these principles drove Pop throughout his life. He loved more than anything to have his family with him at church. He always wanted his entire family and dear friends surrounding him at every gathering. Nothing made Pop happier than seeing his four sons, his daughters-in-law, his grandchildren and his whole adopted family at the same time. He was always sure to have a picture of all of us at the start of every family dinner surrounding him. Pop never met a stranger and could talk without stop about farming and hunting.

He will be remembered for his infectious smile and laughter, his love of Jesus and his family, and his devotion to all things farming and hunting.

A service will be held at Passion Community Church (PCC), 4480 Anderson Hwy, Powhatan, VA on Monday, September 28, 2020 at 11:00AM. Memorial contributions may be made to Jentzen Franklin Ministries/Israel Project, PCC or Hunters for Hungry. Shorter Funeral Home is serving the family.
