James Clark Evans

James Clark Evans, known affectionately as Jim, passed away on February 12, 2025, at the age of 68, in Rice, Virginia. Born on December 28, 1956, Jim dedicated his life to service, both in his professional and personal endeavors. Jim’s career was marked by a diverse array of roles that showcased his dedication and versatility. He worked extensively at the Naval Shipyard and was also involved in commercial and residential construction. His commitment to community service was evident as he served as a bus driver for Prince Edward County Public Schools and contributed many hours as a firefighter in Rice, Virginia, and an EMT in Farmville, Virginia. He pursued higher education at Southside Virginia Community College, where he earned an associate's degree in electronics, a field that remained a lifelong interest alongside his love for fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. Jim was a hardworking individual who was deeply dedicated to helping others, traits that were mirrored in his personal life. He is survived by his daughter, Heather Cottrell; granddaughter, Victoria Cottrell; beloved dog Spike, sister, Pamela Orton (Matthew); nephew, Terrell Orton (Katie); nieces, Brittany Orton and Amber See (Vinny); and several great-nephews and nieces, and his Ex-son-in- law Michael Cottrell who continued to help him and is greatly appreciated for. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy Evans. A memorial service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at a future date in Farmville, Virginia. Jim’s legacy of service and kindness will be remembered by all who knew him.
