Joseph Fulcher

Joseph Hoover Fulcher, 91 of Prospect and a retired employee of Babcock & Wilcox in Lynchburg, died peacefully at his home on Friday, December 27, 2019. He was born November 9, 1928 in Dillwyn to the late James Rosser and Mary Elizabeth Jamerson Fulcher. He was married to his beloved wife of 68 years Gladys Elizabeth Scruggs Fulcher who preceded him in death.

Joe was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church and was a founding father of the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department. He served his country in the United States Air Force at an early age and later enlisted with the United States Army in June 1951 and transferred to the Army Reserve in May of 1953. He received an Honorable Discharge in December 1956.

He is survived by one son, Joseph Madison Fulcher, of Prospect; one daughter, Ann Fulcher Simmons and husband Rick, of Pamplin; two brothers, Henry (Joyce) Fulcher of Farmville and David Fulcher, of Dillwyn; six sisters, Mary Pearl Fulcher and May F. Fulcher, both of Farmville, Elsie St. John of Richmond, Marie Garrett, of Dillwyn, Nancy LeSueur, of Ruffin, NC and Betty Fulcher, of Lynchburg; two grandsons, Ben (Angela) Fulcher and Jake Fulcher, both of Cumberland County and four great-grandchildren, Kristen, Kayla, Lauren and Chance "Lil Man"; and a number of nieces and nephews

A graveside service will be held at the Prospect Community Cemetery, on Monday, December 30th, at 11:00 am.
