Lucille Staley, of Farmville, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013. She was born January 4, 1918 to the late Bessie Vine Pennington and Arthur Penbrook Johnston.
She graduated from Farmville State Teacher’s College in 1942 with a BS degree in elementary education and from Temple University in 1950 with a Master’s degree in elementary education. She spent 46 years in education; 28 years as teacher and 18 years as principal of Delaware County Christian School in Delaware, PA.
Ms. Staley is survived by three brothers, the Rev. John Johnston, Rudy Johnston and Jim Newton and three sisters, Mary Pennington, Bessie Hannan and Catherine Wilck. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Staley, brothers, Tuck Johnston, Lester Johnston, Howard Johnson, Andrew (Bo) Johnston, and Clayton Johnston and sisters, Pansy Johnston, Addie Saffer, Marshall Williams, and Dainese (Sis) Merchant.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Cumberland Presbyterian Church with interment in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Shorter Funeral Home.
