Mildred Mottley

Mildred Munn Mottley, 83, passed away at Cary, NC on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, after a lengthy illness.

Known as Rowena to family in her native state of North Carolina, Mrs. Mottley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alexander Sidney Mottley, and her son, Victor Jerome Mottley. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Mottley Kennedy, and husband Doug Kennedy, of Orlando, Florida, and Penny Mottley Smelcer, and husband Donald Smelcer of Apex, North Carolina. Her grandchildren include Vicki Mottley, Joy Kennedy Kauffman and husband John, David Kennedy and wife Sarah, Daniel Kennedy, and Mark Smelcer.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery in Buckingham County. A memorial service and lunch will follow at 11:00 a.m. at New Store Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Mottley's family will receive friends on Friday, January 7, from 7 - 9 p.m. at Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Buckingham County Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary, an organization for which Mrs. Mottley tirelessly volunteered and loved.
