Ruth Laird

Ruth H. Laird (nee Carlson) of Farmville died on November 27, 2019.   She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Robert J. Laird.   She is survived by three children: Sons William and Robert, and daughter Ellen, and several grandchildren.   Ruth graduated from North Arlington High School in New Jersey and worked at the Prudential Insurance Company for many years.  She became a business partner to her husband Robert’s printing and stationary company for over 20 years.

Ruth was a devoted wife and mother, and enjoyed reading and history, music, gardening, and had a revived interest in art later in life.   She was a role model for modesty, while remaining fiercely independent throughout her life.

Visitation will be on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at the Shorter Funeral Home in Farmville at 10:00AM to11:00AM. Funeral services will follow in the chapel at the Virginia Veteran’s Cemetery in Amelia at 12:00 PM. The family is being served by the Shorter Funeral Home.
