Shorter Funeral Home was established March 15, 1968 by the late Charles Russell Shorter Jr. He graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1965. On Sunday April 21, 1968, A Dedication Service was conducted at the funeral home located at 1905 South Main Street Farmville, Virginia. The Staff of Shorter Funeral Home is honored to continue to serve area families from the same location today. Shorter Funeral Home offers the highest level of personalized service to families in need in the Farmville, Prince Edward and surrounding counties with dignity and pride.

Bernard and his wife Joan have one son Adam. They attend Concord Baptist Church. Bernard is a Veteran of the Vietnam War. Bernard has been affiliated with Shorter Funeral Home for over 30 years.
Thomas is married to Peggy Wilburn Borum. They have two children Morgan and Warren Borum, four grandchildren and one great-grandson. He is a Deacon at Pisgah Baptist Church in Rice, Virginia. Thomas has been affiliated with Shorter Funeral Home for over 40 years.
